Prof. M. Aleminla Ao joined the School of Agricultural Sciences & Rural Development (SASRD) under NEHU in 1988 as an ad-hoc teacher, later continuing her service under Nagaland University after its establishment. She earned her Ph.D. in 1988, becoming the first scholar from the school, specializing in Horticultural Entomology.
During her distinguished career spanning nearly 35 years, Prof. Ao served as Head of the Department of Entomology for 12 years. She introduced M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs and guided 16 M.Sc. and 9 Ph.D. scholars in sustainable pest management. She contributed extensively as a consultant and resource person in pest management programs and served on several academic and statutory bodies of the University.
Prof. Ao also played a key role in the development of Medziphema Campus and served as Co-Principal Investigator of the National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) on Livelihood Improvement at Longwa village, Mon District (2008–2014). Her able leadership has brought visible progress in agricultural technology and rural livelihoods.
She further served as Dean of SASRD (2013-2016), Pro Vice-Chancellor of Meriema Campus (2019-2020), and Medziphema Campus (2020– 2022). Prof. M. Aleminla Ao retired from active service on 31st January 2023, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to agricultural education and rural development.
