Prof. Akali Sema completed her B.Sc. from COA, NEHU (1980–1985), M.Sc. from UHF, Solan, and Ph.D. from Nagaland University. She joined as a Lecturer in 1989 at COA, NEHU, and became a professor in 1996 at Nagaland University.
She served as Director, Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), GoI for five years, HOD, Horticulture for nearly 10 years, Dean, SAS, Nagaland University for 3 years and Pro Vice Chancellor for 2 years.
She has numerous scientific publications, articles, books and manuals to her credit and has guided many Ph.D. scholars and postgraduate students. She travels widely across the globe, representing both the University and the State. She is actively involved with the farming community and youth and promotes skill development, entrepreneurship and value addition in agricultural and horticultural crops.
She is also actively engaged with various organisations, providing consultancy services, monitoring projects and handling both mega and pilot initiatives. In addition, she serves as an expert member on several international, national and state-level bodies. Her special interest lies in organising events and she has successfully organised numerous international, national, regional and state level programs. She is also one of the pioneers of the Alumni Association of the School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University.
