Dr. N. T. Rafique has over 37 years of experience in teaching and research in Agronomy, specializing in Rice Agronomy, Rice-based Cropping Systems and Conservation Agriculture.
During his tenure as Principal Scientist, ARRI, Titabar, AAU his centre received the National Award as the best AICRIP centre for Outstanding Contribution to AICRIP at IIRR, Hyderabad, in 2015. He has served as an empanelled member of the BPGS, SAS, NU, Medziphema for two terms and has published over 20 research papers in reputed national and international journals, along with two book chapters. He has guided more than ten M.Sc. (Agri) students and served as co-major advisor for more than 20 students. Besides, he has conducted viva-voce examinations for numerous M.Sc. and Ph.D. scholars in Agronomy Department of SAS, NU.
Dr. Rafique has developed packages of practices for organic aromatic rice cultivation and direct-seeded winter rice for Assam. He has handled several important projects, including the National Network Project on Integrated Jatropha Development, Seaweed Sap Evaluation for Winter Rice as co-PI. He was the lead Scientist in the Assam Agri-business and Rural Transformation Project (AAPART), AAU in collaboration with IRRI, Philippines and IWMI, Colombo.
He has attended international training at IRRI, Los Banos Philippines in 2019 on “Rice: Post Production to Market” and national trainings at IARI, New Delhi (2007) and IGFRI, Jhansi (1994). Currently, two Ph.D. students are pursuing their research under his guidance.
