Colonel Akash Jyoti Gogoi is an alumnus of the batch of 1992, SASRD. He cleared the Combined Defence Services (UPSC) Examination in 1998 and joined the Officer Training Academy, Chennai. He was commissioned into the 5 Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army on 4 March 2000.
Colonel Gogoi has actively participated in counter-terrorism operations in Uri, Anantnag, Baramulla, and various other locations in South and North Kashmir. In recognition of his bravery, he has been conferred with three Gallantry Awards. As a scholar-warrior officer, he has successfully completed numerous career courses, including the Junior Command Course, Senior Command Course, the prestigious Defence Services Staff Course at Wellington, and the Higher Defence Management Course at Secunderabad.
He was selected to represent India in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Congo, Central Africa, as a Defence Observer, and also served as a Military Observer to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Colonel Gogoi has commanded two Army battalions during his career and is presently posted at the Army Headquarters, Delhi.
